A Random Collection of Thoughts....

17.
Just finished my HSC
(for those who have no idea what im talking about, HSC = Higher School Certificate = Australian end of school (year 12) exams... equivalent to American....SATs i think u call them?)

So I am now "free" so to speak.. free of the somewhat unpleasent aspects of my schooling life, free to do other things with my time rather than study for a month straight!
But now comes a great time of change....

Obama. 08. Oh yeah.
The presidential campagin has been quite interesting, even though im down here in little Australia (with a fantastic *cough* president) I'm impressed with the dedication of America and the proof that democracy still works in some aspects. I'm excited that there is still hope in the world. Hope for change. Hope for a better world. Hope for equality.
Im equally impressed with how so many people got behind the american election. Standing up for what they believe in (check it: Five Friends http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhDRVKDcXQo & Pauley Perrette http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-QltOzvRYo + blogger http://www.blogger.com/profile/02868454545531233718 )

I'm excited for things to come.
There is SO MUCH OPPORTUNITY in the world, you just have to look for it.
You have so much potential to do amazing things.
Anyone can do amazing things. You don't need a disability or a life threatening medical condition or some life changing experience that puts you on the Oprah show to change the world.

Changing The World.
Sounds like a pretty big task....
....but its so not.
Like anything, changing the world starts with a single step.
A single action.
Something to halt our swirling spiralling descent into darkness.
Don't know where to start? Seems too hard? Too many excuses? Here... i'll be helpfull, i'll lay it out for you.

Step 1: Take some time to think about yourself. Think about the things you love. The things that make your heart smile. No im not talking about cash, cars and alcohol. The things in your life deep down. Your dreams.

Step 2: Now think about the things in the world that you would like to change. Or more simply. The things in the world that you don't like. Stuff that makes you angry. Stuff that makes you sad. Things you wish didn't exist.

Step 3: The grand finale. Combine the things together. How you ask? Combine the things you love doing with the things you'd like to change. I'll be an example.

Nadine's Step 1.
I love God. I love church. I love Softball. I love kids. I love helping people. I have a heart for helping people with disabilities. Equality for all. I love Special Olympics.

Nadine's Step 2.
I don't like the fact that there is so much hate in the world. I don't like the fact that people pick on others & that kids can feel so sad and left out in this world. I don't like that the world is controlled by the media. Binge drinking. Alcohol controlling lives, people who are so wrapped up in their beliefs that it is "cool" to get smashed every night of the week. I don't like discrimination. We were all created equally. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. I don't like that people discriminate and make fun of things they don't understand. I don't like that people make up their mind set in concrete about things before they know the facts.
I don't like how much unforgivness and hurt there is in this world.

Nadine's Step 3.
I don't like how people are left out how people don't know Gods love, how people can show so much hate. Show God's love. Love other people. Do kind things just because. You don't have to be a Christian to spread love in this world.

I love softball. I love kids. I don't like how kids can be hurt and left out and feel that they are all alone. My solution? Combine. I'm coaching an under 10s tball team. =] So much fun. So rewarding. Helping others.

I don't like how people discriminate. I don't like how people automatically judge when they hear the word "disability". I don't like inequality. Stand up for the things you believe in. Spread the word about what's on your heart. If someone says something hurtful about someone or something, have the courage to speak out. Staying quiet never helped anyone.
Yes I have volunteered with Special Olympics. No people should never use the word "retard" Before you say bad things about something you don't understand, get to know someone with a disability, Then see how you feel.

Now you don't have to spend your entire life coaching sports teams and volunteering in organisations. It's as simple as spreading what you believe in. Tell people who mean a lot to you that they do! Stand up for the kid that always gets picked on. Share your opinions on something. Show more love in the world than you show hate. "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all".

This is starting to get pretty long so I will finish it off before you die of reading exhaustion.

To change the world all you need is to take one simple step towards the right things and one step away from the wrong things. If everyone did one nice thing for someone else, there would be an awful lot of loving.

"Those who are DiFfErEnT change the world. Those who are ordinary simply keep it that way".

Keep the faith. Love Always.
Nadine.
